Im not sure if most of you got this email today but Jeffery from n@h just sent a mass email with this link today.Although I hate getting mass emails like that, this study looks really promising. Its conclusions are:
• Feeding kava appears to reduce the risk of colon cancer• Different fractions of kava seem to be equally effective• No evidence of liver damage was detected in animals consuming kava

Studies from a university that are comprised mostly of pretty graphs, colors, and pictures always make me nervous, especially knowing some of the crap that I submitted in college...
But anyways, I looked the lead guys name up (Chengguo Xing), and he's contributed a lot to scientific studies of kava:
2008 - Chemopreventive effect of kava on 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone plus benzo[a]pyrene-induced lung tumorigenesis in A/J mice.http://cancerpreventionresearch.aacrjournals.org/content/1/6/430
2009 - Identification of methysticin as a potent and non-toxic NF-κB inhibitor from kava, potentially responsible for kava's chemopreventive activityhttp://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0960894X09011275
2011 - Lung tumorigenesis suppressing effects of a commercial kava extract and its selected compounds in A/J micehttp://www.worldscientific.com/doi/abs/10.1142/S0192415X11009202
2012 - Inhibition of mitogen activated protein kinases increases the sensitivity of A549 lung cancer cells to the cytotoxicity induced by a kava chalcone analoghttp://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0006291X12012429
2012 - Reduction in Colon Cancer Risk by Consumption of Kava or Kava Fractions in Carcinogen-Treated Ratshttp://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/01635581.2012.689917

I guess he's someone to keep an eye out for...

I got this in a random email today. I was trying to figure out why, lol.

Its funny N@Home wont ship to me in Canada or return my emails but saw fit to add me to an email list anyway. Oh well, as far as spam goes this is pretty good.

Well, it's from my home town so it must be true! Not my alma mater though...

Any positive news regarding health benefits of kava is very much welcomed in my book. From my experience, anyone who has heard of kava has done so because of the negative publicity about liver damage from the mass produced pills/tablets.

Does anyone contribute to Wikipedia? Adding this information to the entry on kava with citations would be awesome.
