Did Dr. Vincent Lebot ever identify the orange substance in the acetone test?

Very nice, I haven't seen that one before! DMY or Y is the obvious guess, but I don't really have time to confirm it (would require a column chromatography since the lactones are very similar in retention).

KLs and FKs are present in both noble and two day kava, but two day will have a larger percentage of FKs. Concerning the color, if the 1:3 (w:v) ratio of kava/acetone is maintained and the grind is anything that could reasonably used to make traditional kava, the extraction will be sufficient to make a determination. Acetone extraction is very efficient, how coarse a grind are you describing?



I'd be happy to test your method, please post or PM details.
The grind I got was extremely coarse, so that is probably the explanation. I sent you a PM, since I don't want to put the method up here if it's unreliable :)
